1 Year Reading Cycle Parashah
For the week of April 22, 2017
Sh’mini – eighth
Torah: Lev 9:1-11:47
Haftarah: 2Sa 6:1-7:17(E),
2Sa 6:1-6:19(H)
Apostolic: Heb 7:1-19
Our portion begins on the eighth day. It is a new week. And with it the children of Israel will begin the process of offering the daily sacrifices. No doubt they would encounter a learning process. The priest would learn, do, and teach other priest all the responsibilities outlined by the Lord. In this portion a fire came down from heaven and consumed the sacrifice (Lev 9:24). But two of Aaron’s son’s would learn a lesson the “hard” way. They would offer up “strange fire” and the Lord’s fire would fall on them and consume them.
The fear of the Lord is the beginning of knowledge. Some lessons we can make mistakes others have grave consequences.
